Write for a Neighborhood newsletter: In my local library I found newsletters for specific neighborhoods within the city where I live. Write about school activities or the local politics that affect this specific pocket of people. Write about religious activities, all the same or the variety of religions. Write about anything that relates to your neighborhood. If your neighborhood doesn’t have one, consider producing your own.

I have been a freelance writer for more than twenty years. I have now branched out and also provide editing services and I am a public speaker. I write, edit and speak on a variety of subjects. One of the main subjects I speak and write about is domestic violence. As a survivor of domestic violence I speak out for those who can't or are too afraid to speak out. Domestic violence is a crime against the family and I believe as a society we do all we can to end it and help those who have been victimized by it. View all posts by minarraulston
Great advice. A few years ago I approached a local newspaper and asked if they would publish poems from my writing group. They said they would when space permitted and true to their word published quite a few. The writers were thrilled, especially when friends/neighbours etc stopped them in the street and said ‘I saw your poem.’ Great confidence building 🙂
