How many of you remember the Nancy Drew Mysteries? The author was Carolyn Keene, right? Well, sort of. The series of books was one of many series that were actually ghost written by several writers using the pen name Carolyn Keene. The most prominent was Mildred Wirt. Ms. Wirt lived in Toledo, Ohio and in addition to the Nancy Drew mysteries she also wrote books of her own as well as writing for The Toledo Blade Newspaper. One day she wasn’t feeling well and went home early after turning in her column. Later that night she was taken to the hospital and died there. She was 96 years old. The story is well told in the book Girl Sleuth, Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her.
One of my best friends published her first book a little over a year ago. Her name is Carolyn Williams and the book is called Mystery in the Pines. She is 69 years old and tells everyone, “It’s never too late.”
How old are you? What dreams have you yet to see happen in your life? No matter how old you are or what has happened in your life I encourage you to not give up.
Think about what it is that you still want to do. What stands in your way? Do you need more training? Whatever it is, discover it and go after it. You will grow just for having the experience regardless of the outcome. So, tell me, what is your dream? Do you want to write? Do you want to start a business? How do you plan to go after it? Let’s talk.
